Overview
595 matrix kit provides an easy way to control 8×8 RGB Led matrix with your microcontroller (for example, Arduino).
Details
The board contains four 74HC595 shift registers chained together. There is one shift register for red, green and blue each and one shift register for anodes.
The 595s are chained as follows:
Data order from the microcontroller is RGBA. The board also contains extra headers marked as OUT, OUT2 and IN2. These can be used to chain multiple boards by wiring OUT to IN, OUT2 to IN2 etc.
Getting it
You can buy the kit from our shop at http://paeae.com.
Contents
-
1 printed circuit board
-
1 8×8 RGB led matrix
-
1 angled pin header (IN)
-
1 female pin header
-
4 74HC595 shift register (IC1-IC4)
-
8 330ohm resistors
-
16 220ohm resistors
Building instructions
1. Solder the 330hm resistors.
2. Solder rest of the resistors. They are all 220ohm.
3. Cut the female pin header into two 16-pin pieces. Solder the pieces into the two unnamed 16 pin long blocks.
4. Solder angled pin header to IN.

5. Solder IC1-IC4. Make sure the IC goes in the right way!
All Done! Push the led matrix into the female pin headers. The matrix side with the text goes to the bottom.
